I Bought the Same Retro Handheld From 5 Different Sellers. Eight Months Later, Only 1 Still Turns On.

This is the one that's been in my bag since December 2025. Three flights, two camping trips, and more hours on a couch than I want to total up. It still boots in about ten seconds, same as the day it arrived. It was ten hours of battery when it was new and it's about eight now, which after eight months of charging it every couple of days is roughly what I'd expect.

The left stick has drift now. That's real and I'm not going to dress it up. It's a mechanical part and I've put a genuinely stupid number of hours through it. It doesn't affect anything I actually play, which is almost all 2D. If I were playing a lot of N64 I'd care more.

Nothing else has gone wrong. The card has never corrupted. The screen has never blacked out. It's the only one of the five I can say that about.

I want to be fair to this one, because for a while it was the best argument against everything I'm about to say. It arrived in two days. The card was honest, the only challenger of the four that was. If you'd asked me in January I'd have told you to save your money and buy this instead of the Tekko.

The battery is what killed it. Six hours when it was new. By week six I was getting under an hour. By the end of February it was thirty minutes off a full charge, which isn't a console, it's a paperweight with a screen. Shortly after that it stopped charging at all.

Support replied in a day, politely, and told me the return window had closed. They were right. There was never a warranty behind it, because there never had been one to begin with.

It took three weeks to arrive and it lasted five days.

On the fifth evening it froze mid save. Rebooting brought up a menu where half the game titles had turned into strings of random characters and the other half wouldn't load. That's the card failing, and it isn't recoverable. Everything I'd played was gone.

The listing said 128GB. I ran the card through a capacity test afterward and it holds 16GB. It had been lying to the console since the day it arrived, and it worked perfectly right up until I filled the space that didn't exist. Five days is roughly how long that takes.

The screen went black on day ten and never came back. Charging light works. Nothing on the display.

Worth sitting with the numbers on this one. The listing advertised 256GB and 40,000 games. The card holds 10GB. The games it promised would not physically fit on the card it shipped, which means nobody involved ever intended them to.

This one advertised a lifetime warranty, so I used it. They replied once, asked for a video of the fault, and I sent one the same day. That's the last I heard from them. Four months later the storefront was gone entirely.

A warranty is a promise from a company that still exists. That's the whole lesson from this unit, and it cost me $38.90 to learn.

This is the one that annoyed me most, because it's the one I had hopes for. It cost $99, thirty dollars more than the Tekko. It arrived in a proper box. It looked like a company.

Paying more for a brand name doesn't help if the brand won't stand behind it. That's not an argument against paying more. It's an argument for checking whether anyone answers before you need them to.
